Windermere Lake Cruises advertises the Bowness-Ambleside Red Cruise as about 75 minutes for a round trip without getting off, or 35 minutes one way. A stop adds your time ashore and the wait for a later return. The Ambleside landing is at Waterhead, not the town centre. Keep the simple round trip for a shorter day; choose a stop only after checking the return options.
Alternative or extension
Visit Windermere Jetty Museum
Use the museum as an alternative when a sailing does not fit your plans, or as an extension if you have enough time. Check the route and travel time from your starting point instead of assuming it is at the main Bowness pier. Lakeland Arts lists wheelchair and pushchair access; assistance dogs only are permitted in the galleries. General dog access to the grounds or cafe does not extend to the exhibitions.

Return with a margin, not on the last possible connection

Rayrigg Road is a long-stay public car park in Bowness. Compare it with other Bowness options for your arrival, rather than choosing a Windermere village car park and expecting to be at the pier. Allow for queues, the walk to the water and the return to your car. Parking offers at a museum or hotel are not transferable to council car parks and should not be treated as all-day public parking.
